The Brief
The brief we received from a foreign client, was to find a lodge in a big 5 game reserve and transform the space into a luxury Big 5 experience. We viewed over 30 lodges in the greater Hoedspruit area before finding Mafunyane River Lodge which was perfect! Although in a state of disrepair and seriously neglected, it had great potential for transformation!
The lodge now boasts 5 luxurious private suites with King size beds and a sleeper couch for kiddies. Each suite is accessed by a raised walkway and has it's own viewing deck along the river bed! There are numerous breakaway areas for relaxation, including a deck just above the river bed where game roam 24/7. Every corner of the lodge has WiFi access. A 12 seater dining table along the main deck for cosy dinners and a Boma where guests can relax around the fire and dine on warmer evenings. The main lodge has a comfortable lounge with open fireplace and a library area with interesting game and bird reference books.
The bar has double door fridges and an ice maker to ensure cold drinks are always available. The loft room has a pool table and extra beds. We absolutely loved working on this special project in the heart of Africa!
